Louisa H. Ko focuses her practice in the areas of international business transactions, general business transactions, business litigation, commercial and contract litigation, and labor and employment disputes. She currently serves as general counsel to a major U.S. Customs brokerage firm in Long Beach, California, and an international non-profit charitable organization based in Los Angeles, California. She assists both individuals and various business entities with international contracts and agreements, foreign employee visas, import and export activities, and other general business needs.
Prior to joining private practice, Ms. Ko served as a law clerk to the Honorable Gregory W. Alarcon and Honorable Charles W. McCoy, Jr. of the California Superior Court, Los Angeles County, Central District, and served as a judicial extern to the Honorable William Q. Hayes of the United States District Court, Southern District of California.  Subsequently, Ms. Ko practiced securities litigation with a focus on shareholder derivative and complex class action suits. Ms. Ko also has experience representing physicians and healthcare facilities, and litigating matters involving a broad spectrum of disputes, including professional liability, premises liability, fraud, and unfair competition.
Pro Bono and Non Profit RepresentationMs. Ko serves as general pro bono counsel to the Mission Alliance Group ("MA"), an international Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to serving the basic needs of the underprivileged and less fortunate world-wide. MA erects homeless shelters, orphanages, medical centers, and non-profit hospitals in underdeveloped, rural, or poverty-stricken areas in the United States and around the world, including Mexico, Russia, Vietnam, Mongolia, North Korea, and China. MA also distributes food, water, clothing, medicine, and other necessities both locally and abroad.
Ms. Ko also serves as external pro bono counsel to Illumination Foundation, an organization based in Orange County, California, dedicated to improving the lives of the homeless and individuals in crisis. The Illumination Foundation places homeless families in stabilized housing and coordinates wraparound programs with a variety of community partners to help the homeless work towards a life of independence.
